THE Swedish waitress Charlotte Lindstrom soothed her jailed fiance saying, "Don't worry little husband ... Mama's going to look after you," before the pair fell about laughing in a telephone call recorded by prison staff, the Supreme Court heard yesterday.Steven Spaliviero, now 44, had been charged with drug offences and had allegedly tasked Lindstrom with hiring a hitman to kill two witnesses giving evidence against him. Lindstrom is now testifying against Spaliviero on charges of conspiracy to murder. The jury yesterday heard a conversation between Spaliviero and Lindstrom while he was in jail awaiting trial on the drug charges."I love you and I'm indebted to you for life and I'll never forget the love and support you've given me," Spaliviero said. But his barrister, Bruce Walmsley, SC, said to Lindstrom it was not Spaliviero who had told her to see that the two witnesses were killed, rather it was an idea put into her head by another man.She met the man in a car park outside Silverwater jail and allegedly paid him $10,000 on Spaliviero's instructions. But Spaliviero had only ever discussed his plans to prove that the witnesses were supplying pill presses to drug manufacturers, Mr Walmsley said.Mr Walmsley: "[The inmate's] brother said something along the lines of, 'Look, this pill press, these documents, these invoices and the like, forget that. The deal that's being done here is to have two people killed'. Didn't he put that to you?"Lindstrom: "No."It both shocked and dismayed you. It caused you great concern and distress. He never spoke to me in that way.You decided, in your own way, to help Steve, having met with [the inmate's] brother. Wrong. The trail continues.
